Ikono was on its feet on Saturday as Executive Chairman, Rt. Hon Engr Oto-Obong Essien , led hundreds of residents in a spirited fitness workout, a friendly football showdown, and a free medical outreach at the Council Headquarters.
The day kicked off with jogging and high-energy workouts before the pitch came alive with a friendly clash between Akwa Ibom All Stars (Ikono Chapter) and the Elegant Angels Football Team. On the sidelines, residents accessed free blood pressure and HIV checks, plus health talks on preventive care.
“Regular exercise isn’t just about looking fit, it’s about living stronger, healthier, and longer,” the Chairman told participants, joining them on the track. “Ikono will keep moving forward when our people stay strong and healthy.”

In a show of support for grassroots sports, Rt. Hon. Essien presented a brand-new FIFA football to the All Stars Team through the President of Dr. Akaninyene Oworekpe and encouraged the young footballers preparing to represent Ikono at a national tournament. “ You carry our pride, play with passion and discipline,” she urged.
She thanked Governor Umo Bassey Eno for his backing and praised stakeholders, parents, and residents for embracing her administration’s health and wellness vision.
Special Assistant on Health and Environment, Dr. Aniekeme Akpanobong, hailed the Chairman’s leadership for “turning public health into a community celebration.”
With a massive turnout of stakeholders, aides, and citizens, the event left no doubt: Ikono is embracing a new culture of fitness, unity, and well-being, driven from the top by a Chairman who leads from the front.
